"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,

and a light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105).

What Must I Do to Be Saved?

This is the greatest and most important question one can ask. It was asked by a jailor in Acts 16:30. A lot of answers may be given to this question, but the one that matters is what the Bible says.

You must hear Christ. God the Father said in reference to Jesus, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him" (Matthew 17:5). God hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son (Hebrews 1:1-2). Christ is the Prophet raised up like unto Moses, and the Bible says, "...him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you" (Acts 3:22).

You must believe in Christ. Jesus said, “…for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24). The written record is all that is needed to cause us to “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God” (John 20:30-31). Hebrews 11:6 records, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

You must repent of your sins. The Lord stated, “…except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). Paul preached, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent” (Acts 17:30). Repentance is a turning from evil unto God as seen from the example of the men of Nineveh (Matthew 12:41; Jonah 3:5-9).

You must confess your faith in Christ. Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32). Paul taught, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). A good example of one confessing his faith in Christ is when the man of Ethiopia said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8:37).

You must be baptized into Christ. Mark 16:16 says, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” When Jews on Pentecost asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37), they were told, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…” (Acts 2:38). Bible baptism is an immersion in water (Acts 8:36-38) that puts one into Christ (Galatians 3:27) where salvation is (2 Timothy 2:10).

You must be faithful unto death. The Lord declared, “…be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10). The Corinthian Christians were instructed, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). If you would like to study further or we can assist you in being saved, please Contact Us.
